Pairoj Ready to Serve as Interim Speaker to Vote for Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Expected to Take No More Than 3 Hours

Pairoj Lohsoontorn, the eldest Member of Parliament in the 27th House, confirmed his readiness to serve as interim speaker during the session to vote for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, expecting the process to take no more than three hours.


At 08:00 on 15 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Pairoj Lohsoontorn, a party-list Member of Parliament from the Pheu Thai Party, revealed at the Parliament building that he would act as interim Speaker of the House of Representatives during the 27th House's first extraordinary session of its first year to consider the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House. He said that initially, an oath must be taken before the meeting proceeds. Regarding preparations to serve as chair, these are routine. Being the most senior member, he has been appointed as interim Speaker.

When asked if the process would take a long time, Pairoj said he expected it to take a considerable amount of time. In response to whether candidates would have to present their visions if there is a contested vote, Pairoj replied that candidates for both Speaker and Deputy Speaker would indeed present their visions, and the entire process is expected to last no more than three hours.

Additional reporting indicates that in the 27th House of Representatives, Pairoj is the most senior member, having reached the age of 90 years.
