PM Smiles as Peoples Party Nominates Candidate for House Speaker Election

The Prime Minister did not respond when asked if he felt pressured after the People's Party nominated a candidate to compete for the House Speaker position, while Yossanan and MPs from all parties gradually arrived at the parliament.

On 15 March 2026 GMT+7 at the parliament building, reporters covered the atmosphere before the 27th House of Representatives' first meeting (the first ordinary session of the year). The agenda included voting for the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the House. At 08:58, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, a party-list MP from Bhumjaithai Party and party leader, arrived at the parliament building.

Reporters attempted to ask whether Anutin felt pressured by the People's Party nominating candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions. He smiled but did not answer the question.

Meanwhile, MPs from various political parties had been arriving at the parliament building since 07:30. From Bhumjaithai Party, for example, Siripong Angkasungkij, MP for Sisaket, and Trisuli Traisornkul, party-list MP, arrived.

From Pheu Thai Party, Yossanan Wongsawat, party-list MP, arrived but declined to comment to the media. Others included Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Sudawan Wangsupakitkosol, both party-list MPs.
