The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security sent a team to Udon Thani to visit the families of Thai crew members who are safe after the "Mayuree Naree" ship was attacked in the Persian Gulf.
On 15 March 2026, Mr. Kantapong Rangsisawang, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (Permanent Secretary MSDHS), announced assistance for the family of a Thai crew member involved in the fire incident on the Thai cargo ship "Mayuree Naree" in the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, which was attacked with explosives. The crew members are now safely assisted. The Ministry's Center for Accelerated Public Welfare Management (CAPWM), through the Ministry's team near you in Udon Thani province, visited Na Chum Saeng subdistrict, Thung Fon district, Udon Thani province, to provide encouragement to the family of one affected Thai crew member. He is one of 20 Thai crew members who were assisted: a 32-year-old male cargo ship employee working in the ship control department. He lives with his family, including a 10-year-old son, his 63-year-old father, 57-year-old mother, 29-year-old sister, and 4-year-old nephew (his sister's son). Currently, he is under the care of the Oman Navy, and the Royal Thai Embassy in Muscat has coordinated assistance with relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. Plans are underway to repatriate him to Thailand on 17 March 2026.
Mr. Kantapong stated that initially, the Ministry's team near you in Udon Thani has spoken with and provided emotional support to the family, offering advice on social welfare rights as part of the Ministry's mission. They also delivered essential consumer goods to alleviate their hardship. Furthermore, emergency financial assistance will be provided through the Ministry's electronic social problem assistance system, known as MSDHS Smart. Coordination has been arranged with a multidisciplinary team, the Na Chum Saeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, village headmen, and the Social Development and Human Security Volunteers (SDHSV) in the area, to collaboratively plan assistance both locally and provincially. They will also monitor ongoing issues and needs to provide further relevant support. Cooperation has been established with Somdej Phra Yupharat Ban Dung Hospital in Ban Dung district, Udon Thani province, to assist with physical and mental health assessments. Should urgent assistance be required, people are encouraged to contact the Ministry's team near you via the hotline 1300. The Ministry is ready to stand by you 24 hours a day.
