Election Commission Secretary-General Urges Suphanburi EC to Investigate Polling Staff Misconduct, Notes 60-Day Window to Certify District 2 MP

Sawang Boonmee The Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC) explained that the Suphanburi EC is being urged to investigate polling staff tampering with ballot papers, noting there is still a 60-day period to certify the District 2 MP.

At 09:30 on 16 March 2026 at Centara Life Hotel, Government Complex, Chaeng Watthana Road, Sawang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), said regarding the uncertified election results for Suphanburi's District 2 that the Suphanburi provincial EC office is currently investigating the matter. He added that the investigation is being expedited and the results must be awaited. There remains a 60-day legal timeframe to certify the election results. The EC is accelerating the inquiry into whether the polling station officials performed their duties correctly.

Reporters noted that District 2 in Suphanburi is the only constituency where results have not been certified due to a recount. The new count showed significant differences from the initial tally. Furthermore, there are indications that the polling staff may have acted improperly by misreading and incorrectly marking ballots, and failing to disclose this. This prompted the central EC to order a recount, and the Suphanburi EC is currently investigating the issue.
