Navy Commander Reveals Mayuree Naree Ship Drifted into Iranian Waters, Awaiting Foreign Ministry to Coordinate Aid for 3 Thai Crew Members

The Navy Commander revealed that the Omani Navy reported the 'Mayuree Naree' ship near the Strait of Hormuz has drifted into Iranian waters. The Foreign Ministry is waiting to coordinate assistance for the three remaining Thai crew members.

18 Mar 2026 GMT+7 Admiral Phairoj Fuangchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy. He spoke about the progress in coordinating assistance. The three remaining Thai crew members of the 'Mayuree Naree'. He stated that the latest report came two days ago from Oman, which maintains good relations with the Royal Thai Navy. The Navy expressed gratitude to the Omani Navy for continuously monitoring the Thai ship and deploying forces to oversee the situation. However, two days ago, the Omani Navy reported that the ship had drifted across the border into Iranian waters, preventing them from tracking it further. Nevertheless, if the ship drifts back into Omani waters, the Omani Navy will continue to monitor and provide updates.

The Navy Commander further stated, this matter has been reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been requested to proceed with negotiations with Iran and continue overseeing the Thai crew.

Regarding the Navy's safety alerts, the Commander stated that six alerts have been issued so far as the situation has evolved. The Navy sends these warnings to the Thai Shipowners Association to inform their affiliates about high-risk areas identified by the Navy according to changing circumstances. For example, initial warnings advised avoidance during conflicts; later alerts addressed mine warnings and satellite vessel tracking in hazardous zones. This routine Navy procedure is similar to the Air Force reporting weather and safe zones to airlines, following the same principle. The Navy continues to monitor the situation.

As for assisting the three crew members, coordination must involve relevant countries such as Oman or the United Arab Emirates, even though no Thai vessels are currently in UAE waters. .
