Bowornsak Says Its Up to Constitutional Court and Election Commission After Court Accepts QR Code Ballot Petition, Personally Believes Privacy Is Maintained

Bowornsak said the matter is for the Constitutional Court and the Election Commission after the court accepted the petition regarding QR codes on election ballots. He personally believes voter privacy remains intact and no country has annulled elections due to QR codes. He also stated he has not been approached to serve as Deputy Prime Minister.

At 15:40 on 18 March 2026 at the Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwanono commented on the Constitutional Court's 6-3 decision to accept the Ombudsman's petition about QR codes on ballots possibly leading to election annulment, saying it is a matter for the Election Commission and the Constitutional Court to consider.

Regarding concerns that the election might be annulled, Bowornsak said it depends on the Constitutional Court and the evidence presented by the Election Commission. Personally, he believes voter privacy is still maintained. Many countries use similar ballots, yet none have annulled elections for this reason. He added the Election Commission should have experts demonstrate to the judges that the QR codes cannot be easily accessed, and asked if anyone has successfully breached them so far.

Reporters also asked if he had been approached to serve another term as Deputy Prime Minister in the second Anutin government. Bowornsak raised his hand to deny this, stating he has not received any offers. He said he is currently preparing to possibly step down, but whether he will continue remains unknown.
