Northeastern Peoples Party Defectors Emerge, Preparing to Vote for Anutin with Incentives Worth Tens of Kilograms

Rumors circulate that defectors from the People's Party (PChon) are preparing to vote for Anutin in the Northeast this time, with incentives worth tens of kilograms offered to encourage betrayal, aiming to boost strength for negotiating ministerial posts.

On 18 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that some Northeastern MPs from the People's Party (PChon) are preparing to break the party's resolution by voting to support Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT), for Prime Minister. This goes against PChon's decision to back Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, the party leader. The main organizers conducting the recruitment operation have been lobbying other 'orange party' MPs to join the defector movement, aiming to use the gained votes to negotiate ministerial positions. Incentives offered include payments worth tens of kilograms, but those solicited MPs have so far declined.

Reporters noted that in the 2026 election, Northeastern provinces where People's Party (PChon) MPs were elected include Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, and Udon Thani.
