Live broadcast of today's prime ministerial vote.

On 19 March 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, issued an order to convene the 27th House of Representatives, Year 1, Session 2 (First Ordinary Annual Session) today (19 March 2026) at 10:00 at the House of Representatives meeting room, 2nd floor, Parliament Building. The meeting will announce the royal command appointing the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the House. Afterwards, urgent matters will be considered, including approval of a suitable candidate for Prime Minister under Section 159 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Reporters state that the political parties nominating candidates for Prime Minister are as follows:

The Bhumjaithai Party nominates Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the party's first-ranked prime ministerial candidate.

The Prachachon Party nominates Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, its first-ranked prime ministerial candidate.

There are also reports that the Kla Tham Party may nominate Captain Thammanat Prompao. He is the sole prime ministerial candidate from that party competing in this election.

Steps for voting to select the Prime Minister

Political parties nominate individuals from their own party's list of prime ministerial candidates, provided the party has at least 5% of all members of the House of Representatives or 25 seats. The nomination must be endorsed by no fewer than one-tenth of all current MPs.

The nominated candidates then present their visions to assist MPs in making their decisions. Voting is open, with members called alphabetically to announce their chosen candidate or to abstain. The candidate who receives more than half of all MPs' votes is selected. Once a candidate exceeds this majority, the Speaker submits the name to the King for royal appointment as Prime Minister.
