The Ministry of Education is urgently investigating the facts concerning a teacher who allegedly slapped and punched a student for not submitting assignments. They emphasized that if misconduct is confirmed, strict disciplinary action will be taken.
On 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that news had emerged about a teacher at a school in Chonburi province disciplining a 5th-grade student by slapping and punching due to missed homework. The parents filed complaints and legal actions. The Ministry of Education has assigned its agencies to verify the facts and expedite assistance.
Ms. Airin stated that upon investigation, the teacher in question is a civil servant under the Department of Local Administration Promotion, holding an advanced professional teaching license issued on 19 Feb 2026 GMT+7, expiring on 18 Feb 2033 GMT+7. Records show the teacher received an outstanding vocational teaching award from their agency, not from the Teachers' Council. The Secretariat of the Teachers' Council has taken the matter into the professional ethics disciplinary process and is coordinating officially with the agency to gather facts and evidence. If the facts align with the news reports, the conduct may constitute severe professional ethical violations, carrying penalties up to suspension or revocation of the license. The case will be presented to the Professional Standards Committee for final judgment and penalty determination.
"Currently, the Ministry of Education and the Teachers' Council are conducting swift and strict reviews of professional conduct violations by educators. If a teacher is found guilty, actions will be taken based on facts, ensuring correctness and promptness to prevent further misconduct. Regarding this case, the Teachers' Council will expedite fact-finding and final conclusions to ensure student safety and maintain public confidence," she added.
