“Chatchawan” of Thai Sang Thai Party Declares Role as Opposition After Government Secures Stable Support

“Chatchawan” of the Thai Sang Thai Party declares his intention to serve as opposition after the government has secured stable and reliable support. He sends encouragement to the Prime Minister and the government to overcome the crisis.

On 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7 at the Parliament, Chatchawan Phaetayathai, an MP from Roi Et representing the Thai Sang Thai Party (TST), stated that the party earned the trust of the people by winning 2 parliamentary seats, including his own. However, due to ongoing political uncertainty in various areas—such as security, the economy, and the status of election cards still in process—party members hold differing views. Some believe the party should join the government to advance policies, while others feel it should serve as opposition at this time, as this would benefit the public more.

Nevertheless, the majority of the party's executive board agreed to empower the acting party leader to steer the party toward joining the government coalition. Yet, Chatchawan believes that currently the coalition government has stable support, while the House of Representatives requires quality oversight. Therefore, the party should proceed as opposition for now. He emphasized the need to find the best solution on this matter, asked party members and the public to understand his approach and decisions, and noted that he has communicated his views to the party leadership, who also understand his perspective. He took this opportunity to send encouragement to the Prime Minister and government to overcome the ongoing crisis and problems, to assist the people. He pledged to perform his duties fully in the way he believes will best serve all parties, especially the constituents who have placed their trust in him.
