Wannor Rushes to Visit MP After Midnight Shooting Attack

Wannor hurried to visit and encourage Kamolsak Leewamo, Narathiwat MP from the Prachachat Party, after an assailant opened fire. Kamolsak described moments narrowly escaping death and confirmed he has no conflicts with anyone.

On 20 March 2026, Pol. Maj. Gen. Prayong Kotsakha, Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police, along with Pol. Col. Wisan Rakmak, Chief of Bacho Police Station, led a team including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and forensic experts to investigate the shooting attack on Kamolsak Leewamo, Narathiwat MP for District 5 from the Prachachat Party, which occurred in front of his residence at No. 13/3, Village 9, Phetkasem Road, Bacho Subdistrict, Bacho District, Narathiwat Province, late last night.

At the scene, a black Toyota Alphard with license plate GJ 7577 Yala was found riddled with bullet holes on the right side and windows. On the road, authorities discovered 27 casings of 5.56 mm ammunition. Two people were seriously injured: the driver, Uchalum Kolah, shot in the shoulder, and police officer Harirak Himminah, hit in the face and body. Both were hospitalized and are now out of danger.

Kamolsak recounted the tense moment: after finishing the parliamentary session to select the prime minister, he booked a flight back to prepare for Hari Raya celebrations. A close associate picked him up at Hat Yai Airport. On the way, they stopped to pray and eat as usual with no warning signs. However, as they approached his residence and he signaled to turn into the driveway, a white four-door pickup truck pulled up alongside on the right and immediately unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the vehicle.

“I wasn’t asleep; we were talking the whole time. When the gunfire stopped, I saw the driver and police escort were motionless. The car started rolling uncontrollably. I had to duck down inside and compose myself for a moment before calling someone inside the house to come open the door because I was afraid to get out—the attackers might still be nearby,” Kamolsak said.

Kamolsak emphasized that he has lived a normal life, usually accompanied by just two or three aides, and did not expect to have enemies or serious disputes risking his life. He did not anticipate such an incident and left the cause to be determined by authorities.

Meanwhile, Pol. Maj. Gen. Prayong, Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police, stated that orders have been given to examine bullet trajectories and collect evidence, including casings, for forensic analysis to check for connections with other security cases. The motive remains unclear and authorities will wait to gather clear evidence before drawing conclusions.

This morning, Wan Muhammadnor Matha, Chairman of the Prachachat Party Advisory Board, and Arepen Utasin visited Kamolsak at his residence to offer encouragement. A large crowd of locals also gathered to support him, all urging authorities to swiftly apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
