Prime Minister Declares Assassination Attempt on Kamolsak, Prachachart Party MP, a Political Matter

The Prime Minister believes the assassination attempt on Kamolsak, Prachachart Party MP, was intended to kill and is a political matter. He is pushing to track down and prosecute the offenders.

At 16:40 on 20 March at the Bhumjaithai Party office, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, also head of the Bhumjaithai Party, commented on the attempted assassination of Kamolsak Liwamo, MP for Narathiwat District 5 from the Prachachart Party. Asked whether it was politically motivated, he said that an attack intended to kill an MP is indeed a political act. It was a brazen act, and fortunately, there were no fatalities, though some were injured.

When asked if he had spoken to Sugarno Mata, MP for Yala and secretary-general of the Prachachart Party, about the incident, Anutin said he did ask Sugarno, who confirmed that Kamolsak is safe. The attack occurred near the MP’s home. He emphasized the need to prosecute and track down the perpetrators. When pressed if this was a local political issue, Anutin said he was not aware of that.
