On 21 Mar 2026 GMT+7, progress in forming the government led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister in his second term, with the Bhumjaithai Party as the leading coalition party, was reported. Following royal appointment, the ministerial list for Anutin's second cabinet is undergoing thorough background checks, adhering to the Constitutional Court's rulings. The second-largest coalition party is the Pheu Thai Party.
Regarding Pheu Thai's ministerial allocation, they received eight cabinet seats, including five ministers: Professor Yossanan Wongsawat at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Mr. Chulapan Amornwiwat at the Ministry of Labour; Mr. Prasert Chanruangthong at the Ministry of Education; and Ms. Sudawan Wangsupakitkosol at the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
Meanwhile, the three deputy minister positions have become clearer, representing the northern, northeastern, and central regions: Ms. Piyarath Tiyapairat, MP for Chiang Rai, as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Mr. Watcharapol Khawkhum, MP for Udon Thani, also as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives; and Mr. Akkaranan Kankittinan, MP for Kanchanaburi, as Deputy Minister of Education.
From the northern region, Ms. Piyarath Tiyapairat, nicknamed Home, was born on 11 Oct 1987 and will turn 39 in 2026. She holds a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from Kasetsart University and a master's degree in Social Sciences and Humanities from Mahidol University. Before entering politics, she served as vice president of the Chiang Rai United football club.
Ms. Piyarath is the daughter of Mr. Yongyuth Tiyapairat. He is a former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, former Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, former Speaker of the National Assembly and House of Representatives, former deputy leader of the People's Power Party, and a former MP for Chiang Rai. Her mother is Mrs. Salakjarut Tiyapairat. She is a former president of the Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization. Ms. Piyarath has two siblings: Mr. Mitthi Tiyapairat, chairman of Chiang Rai United football club, and Ms. Pawisarat Tiyapairat, also known as Mae Liang Hai, former leader of the Puea Chart Party and former president of Chiang Rai United football club.
Previously, Ms. Piyarath chaired the special parliamentary commission drafting the Ethnic Groups Protection and Promotion Act and participated in the subcommittee on children, youth, women, the elderly, disabled persons, ethnic groups, and sexual diversity. After winning the 2026 election, she is slated to become Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
