Currently, there are more than 166 two-water barramundi producers in the area, primarily supplying the domestic market with over 4,467 tons per year, selling at an average price of 120 baht per kilogram, generating an economic value of 536 million baht in 2025. Including all four GI products, the economic value exceeds 850 million baht annually.
The Samut Prakan two-water barramundi is a distinctive fishery product reflecting the richness of the local ecosystem and resources. It is farmed in Bang Bo, Mueang Samut Prakan, and Phra Samut Chedi districts, which are coastal lowlands by the Gulf of Thailand characterized by high humidity and heavy rainfall. The area is crossed by over 63 rivers and canals, resulting in water conditions alternating between freshwater in the rainy season and brackish water in the dry season. These conditions favor aquaculture, especially for white barramundi, which thrives in this two-water system.
