Pheu Thai Votes to Support Anutin as a Normal Democratic Mechanism

Thongtham Vechayachai affirmed that Pheu Thai's vote to support Anutin is in line with democratic mechanisms, as Bhumjaithai is the top-ranking party with legitimate authority to lead government formation. He called for patience to observe the results in advancing policies for the people.

On 22 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Thongtham Vechayachai, a party-list MP from Pheu Thai, posted on Facebook: “More important than the mechanism is the outcome for the people.” He noted that many are trying to blame Pheu Thai for voting for Anutin Charnvirakul as prime minister, with some saying "You voted for four months, we vote for four years," and collecting digital footprints of Pheu Thai MPs’ votes for prime minister in parliament.

He said that those who truly understand parliamentary democracy will realize that his and his fellow Pheu Thai members’ unanimous vote supporting Anutin is a normal mechanism of the system, and not inappropriate in any way.

Bhumjaithai is the party that received the most votes from the people and has the trust and legitimacy to lead government formation. Pheu Thai was invited to join the government, and Bhumjaithai was able to gather a parliamentary majority to allow the country to move forward. Everything follows principles and mechanisms without any distortion. However, more important than the mechanism is the “outcome for the people.”

In deciding to join this government, Pheu Thai has the opportunity to incorporate its campaign policies into the government's agenda to ensure that promised policies will not disappear but will be actively promoted within the government. We look forward to following what Pheu Thai will push forward for the benefit of the people.
