Leader of Prachachat Party Calls on Police to Expedite Investigation into Shooter of MP Kamolsak

The leader of the Prachachat Party has called on police to swiftly investigate and identify those behind the contract killing attempt on MP Kamolsak. He also suggested establishing records for all types of firearm owners. MP Kamolsak revealed that the Prime Minister has promised to expedite the case investigation as soon as possible.

On 25 March 2026, Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong, leader of the Prachachat Party, along with MP Kamolsak Leewamo, representing Narathiwat's 5th district from the Prachachat Party, held a press conference urging police to quickly locate those who used, masterminded, and contracted a hitman to assassinate MP Kamolsak.

Police Colonel Tawee said this is a heinous crime where the assailants used an M16 assault rifle to shoot MP Kamolsak, with police and the driver pursuing the case. The incident occurred overnight from 19 to 20 March, right after the prime ministerial vote. He emphasized that no one has the right to be killed by military-grade weapons. This attack happened on the main road entering Narathiwat city during a time when security forces must exercise maximum protection. The Prachachat Party demands that police and relevant authorities thoroughly investigate to identify the masterminds and those who contracted the attack, especially since MP Kamolsak is Narathiwat's representative who received the highest vote count. If the people's representative is not safe, how can the public be safe?

Recommendation to create records of all firearm owners.

Police Colonel Tawee continued, describing the case as serious and shocking. The Prachachat Party works for political ideals of justice, equality, and fairness, led by legal principles. Since this happened to the party, they want to communicate that the Prime Minister has promised to urgently follow up. He also called for forensic investigations, noting that the perpetrators must have acted as a coordinated group from the time they got off the Hat Yai airport until they reached MP Kamolsak’s home.

"We dream of peace and harmony in the South, which is most important. Life and property must be safe. It is time that no one should possess military weapons, and the public must not have them either. Especially when distributing weapons to state officials, there must be a system requiring records and signatures from owners, so it is possible to verify who holds each weapon type, to prevent incidents like this assassination attempt."

Reveals that villagers had previously warned him.

MP Kamolsak said he has not focused on any particular motive, especially political ones, but wants police to intensify their investigation closely. He noted that the Prime Minister has promised to expedite the case. He has not yet fixed on any cause but mentioned that during his field visits, villagers warned him to travel in groups. He has remained cautious and hopes police will quickly apprehend the perpetrators.
