The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) teamed up with the Anti-Corruption Division and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission to launch an operation arresting a person impersonating an NACC official, who demanded 15 million baht to dismiss a case.
On 25 Mar 2026 GMT+7 at the NACC office, Mr. Surapong Intrathaworn, Secretary-General of the NACC, assigned Mr. Pattanapong Janpetchpoon, Assistant Secretary-General, and his team to join forces with the Anti-Corruption Division and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission in an operation to arrest Mr. Sarayut (surname withheld). He had falsely claimed to be an NACC official, demanding money in exchange for assistance with cases under the NACC's jurisdiction and authority.
This case originated on 21 Aug 2025 GMT+7 when the victim was contacted by Mr. Sarayut, who claimed the victim had a case on file with the NACC. He offered to help the victim avoid the case by using his network inside the NACC, but at a cost. The victim did not believe that the NACC would contact in such a manner. The victim also confirmed that the conduct in question was carried out for the benefit of the government and without corrupt intent.
The victim reported this information to the Investigation and Special Affairs Division. Subsequently, Mr. Sarayut contacted the victim to negotiate the fees for assistance. He stated the fee would be 15 million baht total—15 million baht or '15 kilograms'—for the three accused persons in the case (5 million baht each). Later, after negotiations, Mr. Sarayut agreed to reduce the fee to 3 million baht (1 million baht each), requiring an advance cash payment of 2 million baht.
Officers from the NACC, the Anti-Corruption Division, and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission coordinated with the victim to arrange for Mr. Sarayut to receive a partial cash deposit of 200,000 baht on this day. They also executed a search warrant issued by the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases, number K. 1/2569 dated 24 Mar 2026 GMT+7, to search the residence at 34/32 Soi Pracha Uthit 54, Intersection 13, Thung Khru Subdistrict, Thung Khru District, Bangkok, to collect evidence related to the offenses or any illegally obtained or used evidence intended for criminal acts.
After the arrest, officers proceeded under the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act 2023, Sections 22 and 23, and transferred the suspect to investigators at the Anti-Corruption Division for further legal action.
