The Democrat Party teamed up to fiercely criticize the energy crisis. Mrs. Radklao unveiled four strategies to free the country from high oil prices, while Mr. Saksit revealed that Hat Yai is in critical condition with tourism severely damaged.
On 25 March 2026, during the House of Representatives session, Democrat MPs united in urging the government to urgently resolve the worsening energy crisis. Mrs. Radklao Intawong Suwankiri debated by proposing “4 Strategies to Liberate Thailand’s Energy” aimed at building resilience based on sufficiency economy principles. These include advancing biodiesel to advanced HVO technology, creating markets for agricultural machinery using clean energy, distributing budgets to support renewable energy (2W 2S) such as waste, wind, solar, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and integrating agricultural zoning for energy crops with fair price guarantees to reduce dependence on oil imports from the volatile Middle East.
Meanwhile, Mr. Saksit Khaothong, Songkhla MP, highlighted failures in the southern region by exposing that distorted market mechanisms from more than halving oil quotas at pumps have caused severe shortages. This led the Malaysian government to warn tourists to beware of fuel shortages before coming to Thailand, causing Hat Yai’s economy to stagnate during key festivals. He criticized the ban on filling oil into containers for severely disrupting fishermen’s livelihoods. However, he concluded by warning the government not to turn opportunities into crises and conveyed a message from locals to the Prime Minister: “We don’t want a life of luxury; we fear the elder uncle will stay too long.”
