Sophon Plans to Cut MPs Food Budget After Policy Speech, Prepares to Revise Dress Code

The Speaker of the House expects to begin cutting the MPs' food budget after the government policy speech or possibly after Songkran, while also preparing to revise the dress code to align with energy-saving measures.

On 26 March 2026 at 11:30 a.m., in the Speaker's meeting room on the 10th floor of the Parliament Building, Mr. Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, met with the Parliamentary Administration Committee (PAC) to discuss the MPs' food expenses and public calls to reduce or cut this budget.

The Speaker said this issue is urgent and should be seriously considered, with changes likely to begin after the government policy speech to Parliament or after the Songkran festival. Meanwhile, food orders will be reduced to appropriate levels to ensure savings and align with current circumstances.

He also addressed MPs' dress, noting the need to revise regulations to support energy-saving measures, especially regarding energy use inside the Parliament building. Currently, some MPs' attire does not fully comply with set rules. Although some practical leniency has been allowed, future amendments may be considered to ensure appropriateness, reflect current conditions, and project a positive public image. Clear decisions are expected soon.
