Body of Thai Worker Who Died in Israel Arrives Home Authorities Ensure Benefits and Repatriation to Home Province

The Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the body of a Thai worker who died in Israel due to the Middle East conflict. They are managing benefits and facilitating his return to Chaiyaphum Province. It was reported that 1,479 Thais have requested evacuation assistance, with 98 workers having already returned to Thailand.


At 13:30 on 27 March 2026, Mr. Pichet Thongphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, together with Mr. Bancha Yuenyongjongjaroen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, Mr. Sakdinat Sonthisak Yothin, Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, and Mrs. Dvora Dorsman Yarkoni, Deputy Head of the Israeli Embassy in Thailand, jointly participated in the reception and memorial ceremony for the body. Chaiwat Waewnil, the Thai worker who died due to the fighting in the Middle East region. On 18 March 2026, at Suvarnabhumi Airport, before being sent for a religious ceremony in Chaiyaphum Province.

Chaiwat Waewnil, aged 33, originally from Chaiyaphum Province, traveled to work in agriculture in the state of Israel and died in an explosion on 18 March. The body was sent back to Thailand on flight LY093, arriving at 12:45 today.


Mr. Pichet revealed that regarding benefits and compensation, the deceased’s heirs will be supported both by foreign and Thai authorities, including the following:

1. Benefits from the State of Israel

  • Compensation from the Israeli insurance institution (currently under review).
  • Unpaid wages and compensation (Pisu'im) are being processed.

2. Benefits in Thailand

  • The Fund for Assistance to Overseas Workers: Death benefit of 40,000 baht.
  • Social Security Office: Old-age savings amounting to 71,459.14 baht (excluding interest).


Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor has instructed local offices, especially the Chaiyaphum Provincial Labor Office, to expedite assistance to the deceased’s family, including facilitating documentation, benefit claims, and coordination with relevant agencies. Mr. Pichet expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and affirmed that the Ministry of Labor will expedite the process to ensure the heirs receive their legal benefits as soon as possible. He also urged Thai workers still in high-risk areas to strictly follow official safety guidelines for their protection.

The Ministry of Labor continues to closely monitor the situation of Thai workers in the Middle East by noting that 1,479 Thais have requested evacuation assistance, with 98 workers having returned to Thailand so far. ."
