The Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission revealed readiness to cooperate with the government and to convene an urgent meeting immediately if the government sends a letter requesting approval for a 1-baht excise tax cut. At present, they are still waiting for the letter.
On 29 Mar 2026 at 10:00 GMT+7, at the Election Commission office, Lieutenant Commander Phasakorn Siripakayaporn, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), gave an interview regarding the Cabinet's plan to send a letter requesting approval to reduce the excise tax by 1 baht. He said the EC and its Secretary-General are quite aware of this matter. The EC is ready to cooperate in considering the issue promptly and is prepared to hold an urgent meeting for consideration since it affects the public. However, the process is currently administrative; once the letter arrives at the EC, it is believed that the commission will be ready to review it.
When asked if a letter from the Cabinet arriving Monday morning could be immediately brought to the EC meeting for consideration that afternoon, the Deputy Secretary-General said that if it is an urgent matter as indicated by the Cabinet, the EC is ready to consider it immediately. They are currently only waiting for the letter from the Cabinet.
