Khun Ying Noi Urges Government to Stop Excessive Oil Taxes, Calls for Immediate 10 Baht Cut Says 1 Baht Reduction Wont Help Citizens

"Sudarat" urges the government to temporarily stop excessive oil taxation, calling for an immediate 10 baht reduction and warning that a mere 1 baht cut will not help the people.

On 30 March 2026, Khun Ying Sudarat Keyuraphan, former leader of the Thai Sang Thai Party, publicly urged the government to address the energy crisis, as soaring oil prices severely worsen public hardship. In just three weeks, prices surged three times, totaling over 9 baht, while the government only cut excise tax by 1 baht per liter, which is insufficient given the burdens faced by citizens.

Khun Ying Sudarat stated that currently the government collects nearly 7 baht per liter in excise tax on oil, along with overlapping value-added tax (VAT). She pleaded with the government to temporarily suspend these taxes, which would immediately reduce pump prices by up to 10 baht per liter, helping "small people" and the general public survive in the current economic conditions.

Beyond tax issues, Khun Ying Sudarat also proposed that the government seriously review the refinery price structure, especially refining and marketing fees, which should reflect true costs rather than relying solely on Singapore import price benchmarks. She called for establishing a fund to directly support food producers and farmers to prevent rising oil costs from escalating consumer goods prices and triggering a widespread cost-of-living crisis. Given the government's caretaker status, swift and compassionate decisions toward the public are the most important demonstration of responsibility before transitioning to a full government.
