The Prime Minister has ordered improvements to the security system following an incident where a former taxi driver defied security teams and raced through the defensive line to the Thai Khu Fah building.
On 30 March 2026, reports emerged after an incident involving Mr. Pongpichan Thanathiraphong, a former taxi driver who rode a motorcycle and intruded up to the front of the Thai Khu Fah building, causing significant alarm among officials. Recently, the Government House management team, accompanied by three Metropolitan Police officers, three directors from the security management group, and the vehicle department, conducted a foot patrol to inspect the surrounding security system, from the Thai Khu Fah building to all entry and exit gates, aiming to close any loopholes and prevent recurrence.
In response to the incident, the Government House announced strict measures to be enforced immediately from 31 March. These include restricted entry and exit times, heightened security especially at Gate 4 on Phitsanulok Road, selective screening of individuals, and the gate on the Chamai Maruchet Bridge side will be open only for the Prime Minister, ministers, and VVIPs. Security checks will be more frequent, with staff at checkpoints instructed to thoroughly inspect documents and suspicious items.
The Prime Minister has been informed of the incident and has issued urgent orders to promptly enhance and tighten the security system beyond its previous standards.
