MP Suphanat sharply criticized Phiphat's reasoning as deeply flawed, accusing him of refusing to reduce excise tax out of fear that government revenue would decline, instead passing the burden onto the people and indebting them in the future.
At 14:00 on 30 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Suphanat Meenachinan, MP for Bangkok from the Prachachon Party, posted on Facebook that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn's logic is seriously flawed. He refuses to reduce excise tax because he fears the government's revenue will fall and that the 2027 budget available to the government will shrink. Instead, the government chooses to subsidize using the oil fund. Then, when oil prices drop, they recoup the money from the public to compensate the fund. The conclusion is that the government passes the burden onto the people and indebts them in the future, rather than taking the burden themselves by tightening their belts and cutting unnecessary expenses. If national leaders think this way, they are unfit to govern the country. When will they truly help the people?
