The Ministry of Energy revealed that diesel consumption has surged to 87.5 million liters per day, while gasoline use has stabilized to normal levels. It was stated that the Security Operations Center meeting did not discuss reducing the fuel excise tax.
At 17:40 on 30 Mar 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Mr. Weerapat Kiatfuangfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, held a press conference after the Security Operations Center (SOC) meeting on the Middle East conflict situation. He reported that on 30 Mar, SOC received the latest national fuel situation report as of 28 Mar, showing diesel sales at 87.5 million liters, higher than the March average of 83 million liters per day. This consisted of 69.5 million liters sold through gas stations and about 18 million liters to transportation, industry, government agencies, and state enterprises. Gasoline sales were at 32-33 million liters, starting to decline toward the average sales in January.
Mr. Weerapat said the Ministry of Energy has implemented measures to ease fuel reserve requirements by legally releasing a total of 120 million liters of fuel into the system to meet public demand. Additionally, support is given for B20 fuel, which is about 5 baht cheaper than B7 due to subsidies from the Fuel Fund. However, B20 is not sold generally at gas stations but only through fuel depots, intended for specific groups such as fishing boats or certain vehicle models that support it, to prevent warranty and engine issues. Currently, orders can be placed at the Phra Khanong depot (OR), Songkhla depot, and Sangklaburi depot. The Shell depot is expected to begin sales in early April.
When asked about the progress of the “App Fuel now” application, which has not been updated, Mr. Weerapat said it is currently being rapidly developed, incorporating data from provincial energy offices nationwide, and is expected to perform better within 1-2 days. Regarding whether the meeting discussed reducing the diesel excise tax, he said this topic was not raised or reported in the current meeting.
