Crisis Management Center Denies Rumors of Fuel Price Hike, Orders Bus Fare Freeze for Songkran

The Crisis Management Center spokesperson warned the public not to believe fake news circulating on LINE about a fuel price increase and said to wait for the Fuel Fund Management Committee (FFMC) to confirm the official figures. Meanwhile, the Department of Land Transport approved fare increases for passenger vehicles.

On 1 April 2026, Ms. Nattha Mahattana, spokesperson for the Crisis Management Center, together with Mr. Thitiphat Thaichongrak, spokesperson for the Department of Land Transport, held a press conference to report on the large Crisis Management Center committee meeting addressing urgent energy and transportation issues affecting the public. Ms. Nattha clarified that the message circulating on the LINE app about a fuel price hike tonight is fake news, as the Fuel Fund Management Committee (FFMC) is still awaiting the final reference figures from Singapore. The official announcement will be made no later than 8:00 PM today to allow the public to plan accordingly. She also recommended using the "Fuel Now" application to check real-time fuel status at various gas stations.

Regarding the Middle East situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that tensions remain high after Iran prepared to retaliate against U.S. companies and threatened to impose tolls on the Strait of Hormuz. Thailand maintains its position supporting diplomatic negotiations to resolve the conflict.

Mr. Thitiphat announced the resolution of the Central Land Transport Control Board, stating that the meeting agreed to raise passenger fares due to soaring fuel costs. Intercity buses will increase fares by 5 baht per 100 kilometers, and passenger vans by 2 baht per 100 kilometers. However, as a Songkran gift, the Department of Land Transport and the Transport Company Limited decided to keep fares at current rates from 6 to 19 April 2026 to ease the burden on people traveling back to their hometowns. The new fare rates will take effect starting 20 April.
