Khun Ying Nuoy Urges Government to Cut Fuel Prices by 10 Baht, Calls for Excise and VAT Tax Relief Without Burdening People

Sudarat proposed temporarily exempting excise and VAT taxes, confident this would immediately reduce fuel prices by 10 baht per liter. She recommended the government boldly cut unnecessary ministry budgets to compensate.

On 2 April 2026, Khun Ying Sudarat Keyuraphan expressed concern over the continuous surge in fuel prices, which severely impacts people's living costs. She criticized the government's unclear approach in addressing the issue, uncertain whether it would reduce taxes or rely on the oil fund subsidies.

Khun Ying Sudarat stated that relying solely on the oil fund to absorb price increases creates future debt burdens, because when global oil prices fall, people still have to pay high prices to cover the fund’s negative balance. Excessive use of the oil fund shifts the burden solely onto the public, and currently the government's borrowing limit is nearly maxed out.

She suggested a parallel approach to immediately reduce fuel prices by 10 baht per liter, including canceling the excise tax currently nearly 7 baht per liter, noting the government's current 1 baht reduction is insufficient. She also proposed temporarily suspending VAT on fuel during this crisis, while the oil fund can partly support price stabilization.

Addressing concerns that tax cuts would reduce government revenue, Khun Ying Sudarat urged the government to bravely manage its budget by ordering all ministries to urgently cut unnecessary expenses, such as road and large building construction budgets totaling about 100 billion baht annually. She said the government must now side with the people by reducing public spending to match the revenue loss from easing energy costs during this crisis.
