“Pakorn” awaits the new Cabinet’s decision on reducing the oil excise tax by 1 baht, highlighting a policy to reform laws and improve citizens’ lives, while clarifying he will respond only to legal matters.
At 12:50 p.m. on 2 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt was interviewed about the policy to reduce the oil excise tax by 1 baht. He said that no detailed project has been developed yet because the Ministry of Finance has only presented the principles of what will be done. They still need to prepare formal requests and details for submission. If approval from the Election Commission (EC) is required, it would pertain to the use of the central budget. However, personally, he thinks it is better to wait for the new Cabinet, which will be formed in a few days.
When asked if he had seen the draft policy statement to Parliament from the government, Pakorn said he understands that the party has already prepared it. He has provided guidance regarding legal development and legal reform. The party will likely adjust the wording, while he will apply the vision he developed during his work with the Council of State to improve the quality of life for the people.
Pakorn also spoke about his working style and media interviews, saying he is not very skilled at interviews. If the topics are not political, he can respond; if they involve legal matters, he can explain. But if asked about who is in conflict with whom, he would not know. Regarding his work approach, he said he has not yet figured it out because he has never been Deputy Prime Minister before and feels uncertain about how to conduct himself.
