
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior took a helicopter tour over forest fire hotspots in Hod and Doi Tao districts of Chiang Mai and Li district of Lamphun, urging strict enforcement of laws to restore clean air to the northern region.
On 2 April 2026, Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, continued his second day of operations addressing the northern haze crisis. In collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Mr. Ratthaphon Naradisorn, Governor of Chiang Mai Province, he flew to survey weather conditions and closely monitor forest fire situations. The Permanent Secretary boarded a helicopter to inspect dense heat spots in Hod and Doi Tao districts of Chiang Mai, and Li district of Lamphun, following satellite images reporting fires the previous night, to assess the situation on the ground.
He then traveled to Ban Pong School in Doi Tao district to hold a meeting with district chiefs and local leaders, listening to on-site issues and providing urgent solutions as directed by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, before proceeding to Mae Taeng district.
The Permanent Secretary emphasized that all government agencies must manage the situation cohesively, focusing on identifying fire causes and enforcing laws strictly against offenders. At the same time, efforts must be accelerated to build understanding with local residents to foster sustainable cooperation.
Mr. Arsit affirmed that the Ministry of Interior will mobilize all resources to resolve forest fire and haze problems as quickly as possible to restore clean air for the people of Chiang Mai and neighboring provinces, in accordance with the government's urgent policy.
