Army Spokesperson Confirms Additional Tattoo Regulations to Align with Military Service Qualifications

The Army clarifies that the measures regarding personnel tattoos are additional regulations to align with the Army's service qualifications.

At 19:30 on 2 April 2026 GMT+7, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, addressed reports that the Army has established criteria concerning tattoos on personnel outside covered areas of the body, aiming to preserve the organization's image and credibility. He provided the following clarifications for accurate understanding.

1. Normally, recruitment into military service, including the Army's personnel selection exams, has clearly defined qualifications. An exception is made only for those with tattoos in covered areas, which are not visible when wearing sports uniforms; such individuals may be admitted. Tattoos outside covered areas are grounds for disqualification.

2. To align with these recruitment and selection criteria, at the end of March, the Army Personnel Department issued additional guidelines allowing personnel to have tattoos only in covered areas. This also covers cases where personnel get tattoos after joining the service.

Following the implementation of these measures, all military units have expedited efforts to explain and ensure personnel comply correctly. Those who act contrary to these regulations will be deemed unqualified as Army civil servants and will be subject to military disciplinary procedures.

The Army spokesperson emphasized that the Army respects the rights and freedoms of all personnel. However, strict cooperation is necessary to maintain discipline and uphold the credibility and image of this security agency.
