Army Spokesperson Confirms Issuance of Additional Tattoo Regulations to Align with Military Service Eligibility

The Army clarified that the measures concerning personnel tattoos are additional regulations designed to align with the qualifications for military service in the Army.

At 19:30 on 2 April 2026 GMT+7, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, addressed reports that the Army has set criteria regarding tattoos on personnel visible outside clothing to maintain the organization's image and credibility. He explained the details for correct understanding as follows.

1. Normally, the recruitment and selection of individuals for military service in the Army have clearly defined qualifications. An exception is made only for those with tattoos under clothing that are not visible when wearing sports uniforms; only such individuals are eligible for service. Those with tattoos visible outside clothing are considered disqualified.

2. To align with the recruitment and selection criteria mentioned, at the end of March, the Army Personnel Department established additional criteria allowing personnel to have tattoos only under clothing. This also covers cases where personnel may get tattoos after entering service.

Following these measures, all military units have promptly explained and ensured personnel comply correctly. Personnel who act contrary to these regulations will be considered ineligible for Army service and will face disciplinary proceedings accordingly.

The Army spokesperson emphasized that the Army respects the rights and freedoms of all personnel. However, strict cooperation is necessary to adhere to these measures to maintain discipline and the credibility and image of the security agency.
