Prachachat Party Urges Prime Minister to Expand Investigation into Mastermind Behind Ambush of MP Kamolsak

The Prachachat Party urges the Prime Minister to expedite the investigation into the ambush of MP Kamolsak and demands an expanded inquiry to identify the masterminds behind the attack, along with periodic announcements on the investigation's progress to the public.

On 3 April 2026, at the Prachachat Party headquarters, Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, party leader, together with MP Kamolsak Liwamo of Narathiwat, held a press conference calling on the Prime Minister to accelerate the investigation into the shooting of MP Kamolsak in front of his home in Bacho district, Narathiwat. The attack occurred on 20 March 2026 at 1:05 a.m. while he was returning from Hat Yai airport after a parliamentary session. The incident resulted in severe gunshot injuries to his driver, Uchalum Kolor, and police escort, Sgt. Harirak Hummina, who are currently receiving treatment at Narathiwat Hospital, as previously reported.

Pol. Col. Tawee stated that he is fully aware that unrest in the southern region affects not only MP Kamolsak but others as well. He expressed a strong desire for everyone's safety and called for a transparent investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice. From the incident until now, he acknowledged that police and related officials have been working diligently, including the use of special laws to detain several individuals and issue arrest warrants under the Criminal Procedure Code. He therefore offered encouragement to the police and the investigation team.

However, one concern is the white vehicle used in the attack, which they learned was a government vehicle. After the crime, the vehicle was dismantled and discarded in water. The government agency involved is the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC). The Prime Minister, who oversees ISOC, especially its front units responsible for command and investigation, is urged to ensure a thorough inspection into why the vehicle was permitted for use in the assassination attempt on MP Kamolsak. The communication of any suspects must follow evidence to avoid suspicion.

The Prachachat Party calls on the government and relevant agencies, particularly those relying on ISOC to resolve issues in the three southern border provinces, to urgently investigate why a government vehicle was used in the crime and ensure officials can perform their duties without interference. They urge the Prime Minister, as ISOC director, along with the Army Commander and the Fourth Army Region Commander, to support investigators and conduct the work transparently to prevent ambiguity. They demand identification of the masterminds and those who commissioned the attack. This clarity is critical as involvement of a government vehicle causes fear among officials and hinders their work. The party calls for the government to openly fulfill its role.

Meanwhile, MP Kamolsak stated that the dashcam footage from the vehicle he was in clearly showed the license plate and vehicle type, leading to further investigation and suspect apprehension. It was found that the vehicle was dismantled and identified as belonging to ISOC Narathiwat. He wants to know who commissioned the attack and the motives behind it. The attack was a clear attempt on his life, despite efforts to deflect by claiming the shooting targeted the driver, who had been followed since Hat Yai airport.

In addition, the Prachachat Party issued a statement reporting that 30 shell casings were found at the scene, preliminarily identified as from two M16 rifles. The vehicle involved was a white four-door pickup truck. Initial evidence, including dashcam photos and communication records before and after the incident, along with forensic and communication technology evidence, led police investigators from Provincial Police Region 9 to detain two suspects on 30 March 2026, both former marine soldiers named Somporn Langdet and Yotsakorn Langdet. Further investigations resulted in additional arrests and evidence collection. On 1 April 2026, the investigation team, together with bomb disposal units and forensic officials from Narathiwat province, inspected two locations in Bawang village, Bang Khun Thong subdistrict, Tak Bai district, Narathiwat, identified as the sites where the vehicle was dismantled and weapons used in the attack were stored.

The attack is regarded as a serious and shocking act involving coordinated division of roles. It is also an intimidation against the safety of members of parliament, affecting public confidence. The incident appears to be a coordinated operation with possible masterminds and those who commissioned the attack involved.

Reliable witnesses have been found.

However, the case still contains issues requiring further investigation by the authorities into the methods of complicity and the masterminds behind the attack. The Prachachat Party believes urgent action is needed as follows.

1. Given the public interest in this case to ensure confidence in the justice process and personal and property safety, the relevant authorities should provide continuous updates on the investigation progress.

2. If initial evidence links any individual, regardless of rank or agency, to the case, they should be promptly summoned for questioning as a witness or suspect.

3. The origin of the vehicle used in the attack and any persons connected to it should be thoroughly investigated and those involved questioned to extend the inquiry promptly.

4. Deep investigations should be conducted to identify the masterminds and their support networks. The probe should go beyond arresting the operatives, even if not all involved individuals have been identified. Scientific forensic and communication technology evidence should be used to identify and prosecute the true masterminds fully, regardless of their status.

Four safety recommendations.

The Prachachat Party proposes the following security measures for the southern border provinces.

1. The Prime Minister, as Director of ISOC Headquarters, overseeing ISOC Region 4 Front, should manage overall operations, monitor the situation, and command state agencies to address security issues. Given the ongoing violence, he should personally visit the area to assess the situation and order swift, decisive action on all cases.

2. Review the organizational structure and manpower of ISOC at the regional level to ensure tight control and increase civilian participation.

3. The Prime Minister, as supervisor of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), must order a review of SBPAC’s powers to enhance its role in justice facilitation, case monitoring, fact-finding, reporting, and promoting strong participatory processes through its advisory council (which previously established fact-finding committees).

4. Due to the significant increase in unrest and violence in the southern border provinces, the Prime Minister, as supervisor of SBPAC, has instructed all relevant agencies, including SBPAC and justice system bodies, to monitor, accelerate, and verify facts in every case to ensure all proceed through the justice system—not only the ambush of MPs but all violent incidents.
