Deputy Leader "Kandee" of the Democrat Party revealed that the party has decided to suspend a former MP candidate for six months over sexual harassment allegations, affirming adherence to international standards to protect the rights of the victim. The accused has already chosen to resign from party membership.
On 3 April 2026 at the Democrat Party headquarters, Dr. Kandee Liaopairoj, Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, held a press conference addressing reports about a former Democrat Party MP candidate engaging in inappropriate sexual harassment behavior. He explained the party’s process and responsibility regarding the case: As soon as the leadership became aware, they agreed it was a sensitive matter and unacceptable behavior. A fact-finding committee was immediately established, interviewing both the accused and the victim, and it was confirmed that inappropriate conduct had indeed occurred.
Regarding disciplinary action, Dr. Kandee stated the party chose to keep the matter confidential to protect the dignity and reputation of the victim, preventing sensitive information from spreading widely. The committee therefore resolved to suspend the accused from duties for six months, which is the highest punishment under the party’s existing regulations.
"We had the option to expel the individual from the party immediately, but that process would have caused sensitive information and the victim’s reputation to become widely known. The committee thus decided to prioritize protecting the victim’s interests with their consent," he said.
Additionally, Dr. Kandee, along with Mrs. Ratkelao Intawong Suwankiri, representing women in politics, emphasized that sexual harassment is unacceptable in any organization, especially in the political arena. The party aims to establish proper and transparent standards to manage such issues thoroughly and carefully.
In closing, Dr. Kandee affirmed that the accused has taken responsibility by resigning from party membership. The party stressed it has not been complacent and has acted swiftly to restore justice and fully protect the victim.
