Piyabutr challenges MPs from Thai Pakdee and the Economic Party to demonstrate their skills by auditing the military budget, independent organizations, and royal institution budgets instead of focusing only on MPs’ pensions and food allowances.
On 3 April 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, Secretary-General of the Progressive Movement, posted on his personal Facebook page sending a message to members of parliament from the Thai Pakdee and Economic parties. He expressed a desire to see their role in scrutinizing the appropriateness and value of budget allocations in other government agencies, including budgets for all court levels, independent organizations, the military, and agencies related to the monarchy.
Mr. Piyabutr emphasized that he wants these agencies to be scrutinized even to a fraction of the extent that welfare, benefits, pensions, or even MPs’ food budgets are examined. Since all budgets come from taxpayers’ money, they should be questioned for necessity and transparency equally. As representatives of the people, MPs should genuinely be the voice for all taxpayers without selectively targeting only some agencies.
