Chaiyana proposes three approaches for the government to solve soaring oil prices, pointing out that prices could be reduced by 10 baht per liter, and urges to stop overusing the war situation as an excuse.
On 5 April 2026, Chaiyana Dechdecho, party-list Member of Parliament and deputy leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about the current rise in oil prices. He said the government must urgently implement measures to address the oil price issue to alleviate the public’s living expenses. He proposed three methods for the government to lower oil prices by approximately 10 baht per liter to help the people, including:
1. Reduce the excess profit tax, or windfall tax, by 3 baht per liter.
2. Suspend the collection of the excise tax on oil by 6 baht per liter, and
3. Request the cooperation of provincial administrative organizations nationwide to suspend their tax collection by 0.69 baht per liter.
Chaiyana said that if the government implements these measures, it will tangibly reduce the public’s expenses and positively impact the country’s overall economy. He also urged the government to avoid excessively citing the foreign war situation as a factor and emphasized that the government has domestic tools to effectively manage assistance for the people.
