Pakorn revealed that the Cabinet held a special meeting assigning the Ministry of Energy to study reducing refining fees and excise tax on oil, approved government officials to work remotely, and plans to start gas station opening and closing measures after Songkran.
At 10:00 p.m. on 6 April 2026, Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs Pakorn Nilprapunt said that at today's special Cabinet meeting, the issue of reducing refining fees and oil excise tax was discussed. The matter must be referred to the Committee for Fuel Price Cost Appropriateness, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Aeknithi Nitithanprapas, for approval before being assigned to the Ministry of Finance for further study.
Regarding the use of the 1973 Royal Decree on oil shortage prevention, which the Prime Minister said would be partially applied, Pakorn said it would likely include issuing measures to allow government officials to work from anywhere immediately. Additionally, there will be regulations to open and close gas stations at specified times, selling fuel during designated hours. Details are expected to be implemented after the Songkran festival.
