Democrat Party to Question Government on Four Main Policies Including Economy, State Security, and Khon La Khrueng Plus

Chaiyanat revealed that Democrat Party MPs are preparing to question four main issues in the government's policy statement, including economic problems, state security, and the Khon La Khrueng Plus program.

At 09:00 on 7 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at the Parliament. Mr. Chaiyanat Deddecho, a party-list Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about preparing for the government policy debate before Parliament on 9-10 April, stating that he has prepared questions on the government's urgent policies regarding

1. Resolving energy problems and rising prices of goods due to higher oil prices, which have caused product prices to increase. He wants to know the government's measures to address this and how it will respond if fuel prices drop in the future but businesses refuse to lower prices accordingly.

2. The government's public health policy, including health insurance coverage where patients face gaps because the reimbursement from the health insurance fund is lower than actual medical expenses, causing hospitals to accumulate losses.

3. The issue of educational inequality, as Thailand still has a significant gap between rural and urban schools in terms of buildings, facilities, teaching equipment, and educational personnel. He wants to know the government's policy to resolve this.

4. The government's decentralization policy. Although every government talks about this, it remains rhetoric without real action. The Democrat Party wants to see true decentralization to local governments, which has been reformed since 1999 during former Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai's administration, with a law mandating budget allocation of no less than 35% to localities. However, after over 27 years, budget decentralization remains only 29%, below the mandated level.

"I propose increasing budget allocation to local governments to 40%, and the government should clarify its approach to the problematic scope of authority. Regarding the amendment of qualifications for local administrators, how will the government proceed after the draft law failed in the Senate following the dissolution of Parliament?"

Mr. Chaiyanat added that other issues include the economy, combating transnational crime, maintaining public order in Thailand, border issues, and problems with international scammers, all considered matters of state security. Democrat Party MPs will divide these topics for debate according to their assignments and allotted time. They will also address the government's urgent policies, such as the Khon La Khrueng Plus program promoted by the Bhumjaithai Party during the campaign—whether it has been fully implemented by the government—and whether the policies promised by the Pheu Thai Party have been fully incorporated. If not, they will seek clarity on the government's plans.
