Mr. Nagesh Singh, the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Thailand, paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul to bid farewell upon the end of his assignment. The meeting took place in the Ivory Room, Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House. After the meeting, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, summarized the key points of the discussion as follows:

1. Bilateral Relations: The Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes and thanks to Prime Minister Modi for his congratulatory message on assuming office. He praised the Indian Ambassador for his proactive service throughout his tenure to advance the relationship and cooperation between Thailand and India. He affirmed that the government is ready to support the new Indian Ambassador's efforts to continue fostering good relations and closer cooperation between both countries.

The Indian Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Thai government for supporting his duties throughout his tenure. He congratulated the Prime Minister on his election victory and return to office, expressing confidence that under the Prime Minister's leadership, the bilateral relationship will develop further. He also extended an invitation for the Prime Minister to visit India officially at an appropriate time.

2. Trade and Investment: Thailand and India have significant potential to expand cooperation. India is a large and growing consumer market, while Thailand's strengths lie in agricultural production and processing. Both sides can enhance collaboration in these areas. Additionally, they agreed to push for increased bilateral trade value and to expand trade cooperation into new sectors.

3. Tourism: Both parties welcomed the robust exchange of tourists between Thailand and India. In 2025, Thailand received over 2.48 million Indian tourists, reflecting strong people-to-people ties vital for the economic growth of both countries. The Indian Ambassador noted that Thailand remains a popular destination for Indians, with over 500 weekly flights. Given the situation in the Middle East region, the number of Indian travelers to Thailand is expected to rise. Both sides agreed to consider revising the aviation agreement to meet the growing demand.

4. Energy: Both parties exchanged views and approaches on energy management amid the conflict in the Middle East. The Prime Minister emphasized that the situation remains manageable. The government has fully undertaken measures to secure oil reserves and implemented various policies, including promoting biofuel usage.

At the conclusion, the Indian Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister and the Thai government for their assistance in repatriating Indian nationals. Some of those assisted were repeat offenders. India has conducted investigations and taken legal actions, with joint efforts between Thai and Indian authorities to prevent these individuals from reoffending after return.
