The government has ordered a fare cap for Songkran 2026, strengthened GPS monitoring of fuel transport vehicles, and guaranteed sufficient fuel supply throughout all routes.
On 8 April 2026, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed all agencies to prepare comprehensively for public travel during the Songkran festival. The Ministry of Transport confirmed there will be no fare increases during this period to reduce the cost burden on citizens. Additionally, coordination with PTT ensures fuel reserves are stocked to full capacity at transport stations nationwide, supporting both regular and supplementary bus services on all routes.
Furthermore, the Department of Land Transport has enhanced energy security measures by monitoring over 5,700 fuel transport vehicles equipped with GPS in real time to prevent fuel delivery disruptions or delays. It is forecasted that between 10 and 19 April, travel volume into and out of Bangkok and its metropolitan area will exceed 26 million vehicles, with public transport usage reaching 18.58 million trips, a 10–14% increase from last year. The government advises citizens to plan their travel in advance to ensure smooth and safe journeys back to their hometowns.
