Vote Counting Results for Suphanburi Constituency 2 Still Await Investigation Delay Does Not Affect Parliamentary Sessions

The Secretary-General of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) explained the progress of the vote count in Suphanburi Constituency 2, awaiting the investigation results to determine whether the count was incorrect or dishonest. He pointed out that the delay does not affect parliamentary sessions.

On 8 Apr 2026 at 11:40 a.m. at the Election Commission Office, Mr. Saweang Bunmee, Secretary-General of the ECT, commented on the progress of the complaint about the election for MP in Suphanburi Constituency 2, which has not yet been certified. He said the complaint reached the central ECT office and involved significant discrepancies in the counts from two polling stations. The office proposed to the ECT that the issue might be due to incorrect counting or an unfair and dishonest count. This matter was previously submitted to the ECT once, but the commission requested an investigation into both aspects: whether the count was incorrect or not honest and fair. If the count was incorrect, as in previous cases, wrongdoing might be involved, and those responsible would be held accountable. However, if dishonesty and unfairness are found, a new election might be necessary. Currently, the investigation results are still pending.

Mr. Saweang added that regarding concerns about the timeframe for certification, Section 121 of the law states that election results must be announced when at least 95 percent of the votes are counted, which has already been done. Therefore, this does not affect the parliament, which continues to convene as usual. There is still time to carry out the necessary work.
