Julaphan Amornwiwat confirmed that the Ministry of Labor is providing full compensation to the three deceased Thai crew members, emphasizing that they must receive all entitled benefits promptly. He expressed condolences and is expediting the return of the bodies to Thailand to honor the deceased.
On 9 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Julaphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, posted on Facebook regarding the deaths of three Thai crew members from the attack on the Mayurinarie vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed his deepest condolences for the loss, confirming the fatalities and noting that this tragic event deeply affects the feelings of all Thai people nationwide.
Since the incident, the Ministry of Labor, through the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, has closely monitored the situation and continuously coordinated with the affiliated company to plan assistance and ensure the crew's legal rights and benefits are fully protected.
Under the Maritime Labour Act B.E. 2558 (2015), I have instructed relevant agencies to expedite actions so the heirs of the deceased receive full and swift benefits, with key details as follows.
1. Benefits from the shipowner in case of death at work: the shipowner must provide compensation protection including the following.
- Funeral expenses of 50,000 baht paid to the funeral manager.
- Monthly compensation paid to heirs for 10 years under legal conditions, not exceeding 14,000 baht per month, totaling up to a maximum of 1,680,000 baht over 10 years.
2. Benefits from the Social Security Fund: all three deceased were insured under Section 33, so they have accumulated old-age savings according to their contributions. The local Social Security Office will expedite field support and payment to the heirs as soon as possible.
Julaphan stated that seafarers fall under the Maritime Labour Act B.E. 2558 (2015), which provides specific protections differing from general social security workers. The Ministry will push full legal enforcement and ensure heirs promptly receive all due benefits.
I affirm that the Ministry of Labor will fully act to protect the rights of the deceased and their families to the highest fairness, closely coordinating with all parties. The Ministry has coordinated with the shipowner company for additional support beyond legal benefits.
I offer my condolences to the deceased and support to their families during this difficult time. Currently, the Ministry is coordinating with relevant agencies to expedite the honorable repatriation of the bodies to Thailand, allowing families to perform funeral rites according to their beliefs as soon as possible.
