
The Ombudsman President revealed that the clarification regarding election ballots containing QR codes and barcodes was submitted within the deadline set by the Constitutional Court, and no extension was requested.
On 9 Apr 2026 at 10:20 a.m., at the Ombudsman Office, Mr. Songsak Saicheua, Ombudsman President, spoke about the Constitutional Court’s permission for the Election Commission (EC) and the Ombudsman to extend their explanation period by 15 days concerning the 2026 election complaint about ballots with QR codes and barcodes possibly compromising ballot secrecy. He stated that the Ombudsman submitted the explanation to the Constitutional Court within the stipulated timeframe without requesting an extension. It is at the Court’s discretion whether to summon additional evidence or witnesses. Currently, no additional witness names have been submitted unless the Court requests them. Regarding who will represent the Ombudsman before the Court, they will wait for the Court’s official letter before holding a meeting to decide on representatives to present the explanation.
