Petition to Prime Minister to Expedite Investigation into Assassination Attempt on MP Kamolsak Future Split with Bhumjaithai Party

Sugarno led Prachachat MPs in submitting a letter to the Prime Minister urging a speedy resolution of the assassination attempt on Kamolsak. It was revealed that Anutin plans to visit Narathiwat after Songkran to support the family. Kamolsak is confident there was a mastermind behind the attempt on his life and announced a future separation from the Bhumjaithai Party.

On 9 Apr 2026 at 10:00 at the Parliament building, Mr. Sugarno Mata, MP for Yala and secretary-general of the Prachachat Party, accompanied by MP Kamolsak Liwamo from Narathiwat, MP Sulaiman Buaneepina from Yala, and MP Abdulayi Sameang from Yala, met Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. They submitted a letter requesting an expedited investigation to identify the perpetrators involved in the assassination attempt on MP Kamolsak Liwamo of Narathiwat's 5th district. The act was described as severe and raising concerns over MPs' safety. The MPs urged the government to promptly investigate and apprehend both the assailants and masterminds. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn also received the letter.

Mr. Sugarno stated the Prime Minister will visit Narathiwat after the Songkran festival to meet local residents, follow up on work in the area, and offer support to MP Kamolsak's family.

Three MPs from the southern border provinces expressed their stance demanding progress in the investigation of the shooting of MP Kamolsak.

Later at 14:00 at the Parliament, a group of MPs from the southern border provinces representing various political parties—including Sugarno Mata (Yala, Prachachat), Kamolsak Liwamo (Narathiwat, Prachachat), Senator Angkana Nilaipichit, Amin Mayuso and Samphan Mayuso (Narathiwat, Kla Tham Party), Romadon Panjor (party-list MP, Prachachon Party), among others—held a press conference on the assassination attempt on MP Kamolsak Liwamo. They demanded updates from the Prime Minister. Sugarno stated the shooting was a shocking case that unsettled the public. Police investigations revealed involvement of state officials; the vehicle used belonged to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), and the gun was issued from the royal armory. As secretary-general of Prachachat, he felt compelled to demand justice and updates. They are concerned about the safety and duties of MPs representing people in the southern border provinces. Nearly a month has passed without identifying the masterminds behind the attack on MP Kamolsak, whose life was targeted. Sugarno met the Prime Minister, who is closely following the case and promised not to neglect it. The Prime Minister will visit the area, oversee related agencies, and ensure perpetrators and masterminds who remain at large are brought to justice. Therefore, the southern border province MPs jointly demand progress and urge the Prime Minister, as head of government and director of ISOC, to pursue the legal process.

Kamolsak is confident there was a mastermind behind the attempt on his life.

When asked whether the investigation into the vehicle loan was sufficient to expand the case, Kamolsak said the two suspects remain at large: former Marine Lieutenant Commander Wiroj and former ranger Thanaphat, with authorities currently pursuing them. Naval Commander Montree was transferred to Bangkok and is under disciplinary investigation, following bureaucratic procedures. Regarding the criminal case, since the vehicle used belonged to ISOC Narathiwat and was lent to the assassin, the investigation must delve deeper. He revealed there were 5-6 prior attempts on his life that failed. He confirmed this is not a personal matter but involves two issues: politics and confidence. After the incident, he obtained evidence leading to the preliminary arrest of suspects Somporn and his son and further leads. They believe someone ordered Lieutenant Commander Wiroj, who is in Rayong, to carry out the attack. This is a major concern, fearing the masterminds might remain beyond reach. Still, he trusts the investigators' ability to uncover the truth.

Dismisses rumors of a 10 million baht bounty and separation from Bhumjaithai Party over future matters.

When asked about rumors of a 10 million baht bounty to have him killed, Kamolsak said he was unaware but noted such talk exists locally, considering it a rumor of unclear origin. When pressed if Prachachat would remain in coalition with Bhumjaithai if the case drags on without clarity, Kamolsak said he could not answer yet, as that is a future matter requiring discussion. Asked if he was disappointed that the government’s policies did not mention peace in the southern border provinces, he said members from both opposition and government raised the issue, and they await the Prime Minister’s response today.

Sampan explains photo with Naval Commander Montree, denies knowing him.

Mr. Amin Mayuso, MP for Narathiwat from the Kla Tham Party, stated that he and Kamolsak (nicknamed Baewae) have long had respectful political discussions, affirming there is no conflict between their parties. Such incidents should never occur, especially involving MPs from the southern border provinces. They all serve as voices for the people, yet incidents like this hinder public trust in justice.

Regarding social media photos suggesting MP Sampan Mayuso knows Naval Commander Montree Tobprasoet, head of ISOC Narathiwat who lent the vehicle, Sampan said it is public knowledge that knowing each other is normal. He urged focus on the case instead. The photo was taken at a wedding 2-3 years ago when people requested pictures. He affirmed he does not personally know Naval Commander Montree.
