
The subsidy amounts for compensation to transport operators and public transport vehicles have been announced, with registration opening from 16 to 19 April. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat emphasized the main goal is to maintain operators' liquidity while guaranteeing that the public will not have to pay higher fares.
On 11 April 2026, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, revealed the outcome of today's Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet approved relief measures to aid transport operators and public transport vehicles, which he and the Ministry of Transport, through the Department of Land Transport, have been vigorously promoting to alleviate the widespread impact of the energy crisis on the public's cost of living.
Mr. Phiphat said the key objective of this measure is not only to keep operators afloat and able to continue running their vehicles but ultimately to protect the public by guaranteeing that they will not face increased fares. The Ministry of Transport has divided the support into two main groups for comprehensive coverage and maximum benefit as follows:
1. Public buses and hired vehicles using fuel (Travel cost support measures)
The government will help subsidize costs for over 180,332 vehicles to keep operators viable and ensure passengers pay the same ticket prices. The support covers various vehicle types including:
2. Freight trucks (Consumer goods price stabilization measures) To prevent transport costs from being passed on as higher retail prices, the Ministry of Transport will help ease transport costs for over 287,175 trucks, divided as follows:
Mr. Phiphat urged eligible operators and drivers to prepare to register for the benefits to support their cash flow and sustain their livelihood. Registration will be open from 16 to 19 April 2026. The assistance period covers 42 full days, from 20 April to 31 May 2026.
