Songkran 2026: Government Encourages House Deposit with Police for Added Peace of Mind During Long Holiday

For the 2026 Songkran Festival, the government invited citizens to "deposit their homes with the police," with 1,869 homes registered on the first day. The police stressed the importance of a pre-travel checklist, including home and electrical system inspections, to provide greater peace of mind during the long holiday.

On 12 April 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertvivatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that during the 2026 Songkran Festival—a period when many people return to their hometowns or travel—homes might be left unoccupied. The Royal Thai Police have therefore promoted the "House Deposit with Police" program to continuously safeguard citizens’ lives and property.

On the program’s first day, 10 April 2026, statistics showed that 1,869 homes were entrusted to the police, reflecting public confidence in police protection during the extended holiday period.

Citizens can register for the program through the “Police Care” application, the “House Deposit 4.0” app, or by contacting their local police station (police precinct) directly.

The Royal Thai Police also recommended a “pre-deposit checklist” to enhance safety and reduce risks as follows:

  • Prepare your ID card and register through the house deposit with police channels.
  • Fill out the form and attach photos of the house.
  • Check and secure valuables in a safe place.
  • Inspect electrical systems, incense, candles, and gas before departure.
  • Verify that doors and windows are properly secured.
  • Ensure that CCTV cameras are fully operational.
  • Ask neighbors to help watch over your home.
  • Continuously monitor status updates on home care from police officers.
  • If your return is delayed, inform the officers accordingly.
  • Upon returning, notify officers to check the condition of your property.

“The government prioritizes the safety of our citizens during the festival. Depositing homes with the police is an additional measure that provides reassurance, reduces worries, and allows people to travel with greater confidence,” Ms. Lalida said.

In case of emergencies or suspicious incidents, citizens can contact officers via the 191 hotline, available 24 hours a day.
