Tawee pushes forward with the crackdown on the assassination network behind Lawyer Waewhae, hinting at new witnesses clearly linking the mastermind.
On 12 April 2026, Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, party-list MP and leader of the Prachachart Party, and former Minister of Justice and expert in investigation, spent the night in Narathiwat Province to follow up on the progress of the assassination case of Mr. Kamonsak Liwamo, also known as “Lawyer Waewhae,” MP for Narathiwat's 5th district from the Prachachart Party, who was killed on 20 March 2026.
Early in the morning, Pol. Col. Tawee and his team went to “A Goo’s Restaurant” on Khok Kian Road, Muang District, Narathiwat, a popular meeting place for people from various professions including politicians, officials, and local residents. They joined in enjoying local dishes like Khao Yam, roti, and Thai tea, receiving a warm welcome. During this time, Mr. Areepen Utasin and his family arrived to join a brief discussion about the assassination of MP Kamonsak.
On this occasion, Pol. Col. Tawee personally met and spoke closely with local residents about their well-being, including Malaysian tourists who crossed the border to dine at this well-known local restaurant, a key customer group contributing to the border economy.
Pol. Col. Tawee took the opportunity to encourage the restaurant staff and owners, praising their culinary skills for preserving the local flavors and "maintaining the local identity" excellently, which is an important charm (soft power) attracting foreign tourists to return.
Behind this field visit, Pol. Col. Tawee spent the entire previous night in a confidential meeting with the investigation team to gather in-depth information, leading to a discovery. A "critical turning point" in the case, particularly regarding the mastermind network, which is becoming clearer due to newly surfaced evidence.
"Currently, we have gathered considerable information, especially about the mastermind whose profile is becoming increasingly clear from the collected evidence. " Pol. Col. Tawee stated.
A local resident, expressing frustration, said, "What happened to Lawyer Waewhae deeply saddens the entire community because he was always a pillar of support. The information about the vehicle and shooter is well known among locals to be connected to influential figures linked to the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 (ISOC 4). But why does ISOC 4 remain silent? The abnormality lies precisely in this silence."
Meanwhile, a frontline official in the area revealed that working locally is under immense pressure now, as the evidence points toward influential groups connected to security agencies, complicating and endangering the work of local operational officers. Especially when VIPs visit the area, officers must work meticulously to prevent unforeseen incidents. It is clear that "the situation in the area is far more complex than initially thought." the operational officer said.
