Speaker of the House Visits Elderly Citizens, Emphasizes Living Happily in Warm Families

The Speaker of the House of Representatives visited elderly citizens during the 2026 Songkran Festival, emphasizing living happily in a warm family environment.

On 12 April 2026, on the occasion of the Songkran Festival and Thai New Year, Mr. Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the House of Representatives, visited and met with 2,600 elderly citizens across four districts: Kumueang, Phuttha Isong, Na Pho, and Ban Mai Chai Phot. He offered encouragement to the elderly, stressing the importance of physical and mental health care, living happily in warm family settings, and instilling the value of gratitude towards benefactors, which is regarded as a fundamental virtue in Thai society.

He also held discussions with heads of government agencies and local leaders, including the provincial public health doctor, provincial council members, district chiefs, department heads, local administrative organization chiefs, kamnans (subdistrict heads), and village headmen to listen to opinions, suggestions, and exchange ideas on sustainable improvements in the quality of life for people in the area.

Mr. Sophon spoke about the current situation in the country, emphasizing that leaders from all sectors—whether politicians or civil servants—should set good examples for the public by adhering to the philosophy of sufficiency economy, demonstrating honesty, sacrifice, and generosity to collectively build a strong and sustainable society.

Additionally, the Speaker wished all Thai citizens happiness, prosperity, good health, safe travels, and the opportunity to enjoy joyful times with their families. He also called on all sectors to unite and overcome the country's challenges together, progressing towards security, prosperity, and lasting sustainability.
