Love Nation Party Submits Letter to UNESCO Urging Higher Standards to Prevent Cambodia from Stealing Culture

The "Love Nation Party" submitted a letter to UNESCO headquarters in Paris, calling for higher standards to prevent Cambodia from stealing culture.

At 8:00 a.m. on 12 April 2026, Mr. Chanin Pinthong, director of the Love Nation Party, and Mr. Chaiporn Jirawinichnan, party spokesperson, traveled to Paris, France to submit a letter to UNESCO headquarters. They expressed gratitude to UNESCO for valuing Thai cultural heritage, especially the "Thai traditional costume." They also took this opportunity to speak on behalf of the Thai people, urging a strict review process for World Heritage registrations to prevent distortion and theft of cultural roots.

Mr. Chanin explained that the main purpose of visiting UNESCO headquarters was to express appreciation for the global organization's recognition and awareness of the importance of Thai culture. However, the party also used the platform to voice concerns about the international process for evaluating cultural heritage.

"We want UNESCO to carefully consider each culture's World Heritage registration to ensure it is truly historically accurate. Our visit today aims to be one voice helping to protect Thai culture during this delicate time when it is at risk of being stolen," said Mr. Chanin. , Mr. Chanin added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chaiporn added in both Thai and French that this initiative stems from concerns about the current sensitive cultural situation, especially the risk that the nation's cultural roots could be stolen or claimed by others (Cultural origin theft). Traveling to Paris is an effort to be a "small voice" helping to protect Thailand's cultural heritage.

Furthermore, both representatives of the Love Nation Party emphasized that submitting this letter is not a demand or pressure, but a constructive suggestion. They hope UNESCO will consider it to establish standards and raise the rigor of the World Heritage registration evaluation process in the future, respecting history and preserving true accuracy.
