On 13 April 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, delivered a speech on the occasion of the annual Songkran Festival. He said that on the occasion of Songkran or the Thai New Year 2569 BE (2026 CE), he sends love and best wishes to all Thai people, both those residing in Thailand and those living abroad worldwide. This year, the government aims to preserve, promote, and establish the Songkran tradition in Thailand as a key destination for tourists from around the world, offering them memorable experiences by showcasing the diversity of Songkran customs across regions, reflecting the cultural heritage passed down from ancestors to future generations, as well as conveying the valuable beauty of Thai society.

It also strengthens bonds within families and communities. It is a time of happiness and fun throughout Thailand, filled with vibrant colors and lively smiles after people have worked hard all year.

“On the occasion of Songkran and the Thai New Year Festival 2569 BE, I urge everyone to continue this beautiful cultural tradition and to act as good hosts in welcoming tourists who come to celebrate this joyful festival in our country. I wish all Thai people happiness and prosperity, warm and stable families, and a society full of love, unity, and harmony. Finally, I hope the Songkran celebrations will be filled with happiness, fun, and vibrant colors that leave a lasting impression on both Thai people and foreigners alike.”
