Bangkok Enforces Real-Time Order During Songkran, Emphasizing Traditional Water Play

The Permanent Secretary of Bangkok inspected the Command Center to monitor Songkran order in real-time. He ordered immediate resolution if any area became overcrowded. Meanwhile, the Deputy Permanent Secretary launched a strict security operation, emphasizing traditional water play.

On 13 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at 09:30, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, visited the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Command Center at Thanee Nopparat Building, Bangkok City Hall (Din Daeng), to review operations and encourage staff. He monitored Songkran order through CCTV and real-time security technology.

"Public safety is Bangkok's highest priority. All agencies must closely monitor crowd sizes in each area, as today marks full-scale Songkran activities throughout the city—including government, private events, and informal water play zones—expected to be crowded. Should any area exceed capacity or experience traffic congestion, officers must promptly manage and resolve the situation to ensure this Songkran is both fun and safe for everyone," emphasized the Permanent Secretary of Bangkok.

Strict security deployment for Songkran emphasizes safe, traditional, and respectful water play.

Additionally, at 10:00, Ms. Kanokwan Iemlim, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, issued policy directives and dispatched officers to maintain order and public safety during Songkran 2026 in Thawi Watthana district. She stressed integrated cooperation among administrative officials, police, public health agencies, and private sectors to closely safeguard and assist the public. She also thanked district directors and all staff for their dedicated efforts during this important festival.

Strict measures include prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, banning foam parties and public powder smearing, forbidding the use of high-pressure water guns or aggressive water play, and preventing sexual harassment or assault. The campaign promotes modest dressing and encourages alternative activities such as Songkran knowledge exhibitions, traditional Thai costume contests, and photo corners to create a fun and appropriate atmosphere.
