The government is intensifying proactive wildfire solutions by establishing a war room to monitor Kanchanaburi Province closely. It emphasizes staff safety and is providing care for firefighters injured at Phu Pha Thep National Park in Mukdahan Province.
On 14 April 2026, Ms. Lalida Perdewittana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government is intensively tackling wildfire problems nationwide. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has upgraded wildfire management, focusing on both controlling the situation and safeguarding the welfare of operational personnel.
On 13 April 2026, a field visit was made to the War Room at Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi Province to closely monitor the wildfire situation. Field units were instructed to urgently control fires at strategic points to prevent their spread into intact forest areas and to request aerial support to enhance operations in difficult-to-access locations.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment emphasized that all agencies must prioritize "safety first". Personnel are required to check their physical condition, equipment, and vehicles before operations. Rotations of personnel in high-risk areas are mandated to reduce fatigue, and continuous reporting of any injuries among staff is required to ensure timely assistance.
For prevention, orders were given to increase surveillance in key protected forest areas nationwide, especially in zones at risk of spreading into dry evergreen forests and wildlife habitats. Coordination with local agencies and provincial governors is being strengthened to systematically prevent and address wildfire issues, including strict measures against illegal forest burning.
Meanwhile, the ministry expressed concern over firefighters at Phu Pha Thep National Park in Mukdahan Province who were injured on 13 April 2026 while combating wildfires amid extreme heat. Two staff members suffered exhaustion and injuries from accumulated fatigue and were hospitalized. They are currently under close medical care. Agencies have been instructed to closely monitor staff welfare in all areas and continuously follow up on the injured personnel's condition.
"The government is seriously committed to resolving wildfire problems while caring for operational personnel, who are vital to protecting the nation's natural resources. It reiterates that staff safety must come first in every mission," the spokesperson said.
Relevant agencies will maintain the highest level of vigilance in high-risk areas throughout April to control wildfire situations and effectively minimize impacts on the public and the environment.
